Top Three Hockey Gear

After the blockbuster movie that is “The Mighty Ducks,” kids and even adults have come to learn about and love the game of hockey all the more. The movie has awakened the hockey fan in all of us. Before gearing up for a fun and dynamic game of hockey, you must first make sure that you have all the needed hockey equipment you need. Here is the list of the top three hockey gear that all hockey players and enthusiasts should not be without.

1. Hockey skates. Just like football players have their special soccer shoes for running and kicking the ball in the field, hockey players need to glide and slide in the ice with cool and durable hockey skates. Hockey skates are one of the most basic equipment there is for hockey. The skates not only to protect your feet from the freezing cold ice but they also shield them from getting hit by heavy pucks and sticks and from getting crashed if you get smashed into the corner while your struggling to get hold of the puck.

The factors to consider in shopping for good skates are comfort, performance, weight and durability. Because you need to move a lot during a game of hockey, your shoes must be lightweight and offer the utmost comfort there is. Durable skates that can last for a long time would be a good investment. Do not forget that the skates for a goalie are different than that of the other players. The goalie is the one that guards the home goal and would need skates with a few variations. Skate shopping nevertheless is a matter of personal preference. Choose one that suits you well.

2. Hockey sticks. Basketball players use their hands to make a shot, football players their feet or head for a goal. Hockey players make a goal with the use of a stick. The same with hockey skates, one cannot join in on a game of hockey if he is not equipped with his own hockey stick. There are no strict criteria in choosing a hockey stick. The thing to remember is to get a stick that fits your height and weight. A heavy one would be hard to get around and a too tall one would be hard to move around. Choose a stick that you can comfortably play, shift and make goals with. Hockey sticks are commonly made of one or the following: graphite, wood, carbon, rubber, aluminum and titanium.

3. Hockey pucks. Hockey pucks are the basketball of hockey. Unlike the ball that bounces, these pucks are compact vulcanized rubber that pack in a lot of weight. The average weight of official pucks is around five to six ounces. For hockey players on training, pucks average at 10 ounces. Parents of young hockey fanatics however need not fret as there are also lightweight hockey pucks available for these little tikes weighing at four to five ounces. You can buy pucks with just a dollar so almost anyone can get one.
