Top Four Safety Gear For Ice Hockey

Although the National Hockey League players may look like they are having a good time while playing their favorite ice hockey game in front of the screaming fans and spectators inside the sports dome, there is more to ferocity and aggression going on during the game than most people may think. Although ice hockey may look fun and it really is, there is also a dangerous side to it.

Ice hockey is not only skating through the ice as players can get injured as they elbow their way through the opponent team's players to get the puck to the goal. They can get nudged, pushed, bumped, shoved to the wall or they can slip just as easily on the eyes on their butts or on their faces. And these could definitely cause a lot of injuries if the hockey players lack the necessary protective gear to handle the fierceness of every game. And just what are the required safety gear that all hockey players must put on before the start of every game? Here is a list.

* Helmet. In a game of might and power such as hockey where players are constantly bumping into each other incessantly during the whole game, heads are typically most vulnerable to injury. This is quite scary as our heads are probably the most important part of our body as it carries our mind and without such, we might as well function as a vegetable. So it is vital that the head must be absolutely protected at all times at a hockey game. And this is where a helmet comes in. The helmet serves as a buffer that absorbs the impact of a hit so as it would not be able to harm and damage the hockey players' sensitive heads.

* Shoulder pads, elbow pads and shin pads. The parts where our bones are linked up and connected with are generally the most susceptible of being broken. This includes our ankles, our elbows, our shoulders and our shins. And because of the weakness and vulnerability of these joints, hockey players are well advised to wear pads to protect and shield them from the force of any collision that is very possible to happen in any hockey game.

* Protective gloves. Unlike the game of basketball, soccer or football where the players will only scrimmage with the ball and hope to make a goal either by shooting, kicking or running away with it, the game of hockey involves a hockey stick and a hockey puck. And such a stick is not ordinarily one that you can swing either way you like, there is but a science on how hockey players more effectively play with it. And as the hockey stick may pack a bit of weight in it, hockey players can best protect their hands from any injury if they wear sturdy and nice fitting protective gloves.

* Mouth guard. All that shoving and bumping around that happens in a game of hockey may be just as violent as a boxer getting a hit on a face. So to be able to guard against any mouth injury and perhaps to save hockey players from losing all of their teeth, it is required that they wear a mouth guard at all times.
