Three Reasons Why You Should Play Hockey

Hockey is one of the most famous sports in the world. Of course, it doesn't rank up there with the likes of soccer and basketball. However, after you see a hockey game, the first thing that you want to do is try it out for yourself.

The game seems like its non-stop and the action is what the game promises: filled with excitement and always twice the fun with each game that you watch. And like they say, it's not a great game unless you have tried it yourself. But why should you even try it when you"ve already seen it?

• The Speed – One of the things you will notice about hockey is that it is fast-paced. All the players zip around on their ice skates trying to hit a puck into a net. It's so fast that you won't even get to see the puck half the time. Now, imagine that kind of action in first-person, with you actually playing on the ice. The adrenaline rush is phenomenal! As a player, you have to map out the rink in your mind and then calculate different methods of how you are going to get that puck and hit it in the goal yourself. Even as the goalie, you will find that you will do more than just stand around all day. You would have to guard a 6-foot wide, 4-foot tall goal against some really fast hands in the rink. Now that's action!

• The Fights – Now, you may not be a violent person and it could be better that you sit in the audience and watch hockey players duke it out on the ice. But there are some people who would like a piece of the action; and if you are one of those people, then hockey is a real treat. Of course, hockey poses a danger to your physical being and that's why there are also rules to follow. Hockey is not always about fighting on the ice. Besides, if you really get into the game, then you will have no choice but to fight back. This is the kind of sport that not only builds your stamina and strength physically. It also prepares you mentally on all sorts of levels.

• The Competition – There is probably no other sport in the world where competition is as fierce as it is in hockey. Think about it. Where in the world is there a sport where there are times when it's all right to smash a player against a wall just to get the puck away from him? This kind of environment teaches you how to fight and it's a fight to win at the end of the 3 periods. It's exhilarating and at the same time, the sport builds inside you a person who can be stronger even outside of the rink.

Yes, these are probably extreme reasons to try hockey. But these are the things that make the sport as great as it is today. These are the reasons that more and more people are putting on their ice skates and donning their gear to start themselves on a journey of hockey greatness.
