Hockey, being as cold and as ruthless as it could be, is actually quite an enjoyable and very entertaining sport. But amidst all that fun and entertainment, it is always best for you to always make sure that you remain as safe as possible for it. There are many ways to protect yourself during a game of hockey. Most commonly, people put on some body gear to ensure that they don't get injured and bruised so easily when they take some blows – kind of just like football, but on ice. Other things that you can put on for your protection are some elbow pads and some knee pads. These are all important for your safety, but they aren't quite as effective if you don't have a complete set of hockey gear on. What's missing? Why it's one of the most important ones of all; its your helmet. And though you rarely see any hockey players falling on the floor with their heads first, here are a couple of reasons why you should wear one despite the small chance of actually hitting your head on the ice. 1. Safety also means that being prepared for the unexpected should be considered. Sure you don't expect to bash your head on the barriers or on the ice, but that doesn't stop anybody from wearing their helmets. Why? It's because it makes very good sense to protect your head at all times. Sure, the chances of a head injury during hockey are quite small but there is still that chance no matter how small it is. Have you ever wondered why boxers are always taught to protect their heads at all times? They need to do so because getting hit on the head by an uppercut or any other form of a punch may cause you to be disoriented and ultimately unconscious if the blow is severe enough. You wouldn't be bracing for any punches any time soon during a hockey game, but that doesn't stop you from being prepared. 2. If you get popped in the head by a hockey stick or a hockey puck, you're definitely going to wish you had worn that helmet. There is a higher chance of getting hit by a hockey puck in the head during a hockey game than there is for you to be struck by lightning. With that in mind, you should always make sure your head gets protected at all times from any potentially harmful objects that could somehow find their way to your head. A helmet that can block and absorb a part of the hockey puck's force could mean that you could come out unscathed instead of a wound or a huge bump on your head. 3. Suffering a concussion doesn't just force you to exit the game early, it could be more harmful than it seems. Sustaining a strong blow to the head is no joke, things could get complicated fast if you get hit in some vulnerable spot on your head. Having a helmet on would reduce the risk of you suffering a concussion. After all, helmets are designed to avoid things such as those – among others. |
