Five Hockey Equipment Guidelines To Keep In Mind

Hockey is a sport which requires players to be in tip top condition. This does not only mean that players must be physically and mentally fit, but they must have the best type of equipment to ensure that they can play the game without any problems.

The player's equipment must be looked after and cared for with the utmost care. This means that the player's equipments should be checked from time to time and must be shown to the coach or an official of the team for inspection in order for them do decide if that particular equipment a player is using meets the standards that will keep them out of harm's way. Here are some general guidelines players or teams should follow when inspecting and taking care of their equipment.

1. A player's shin pads must not have any defects such as cracks as these may be harmful to the player's well being. If a player's shin pads have cracks, these should be replaced as soon as possible, which is before the team has laid their equipment for inspection.

If a player does not have this required piece of equipment or has failed to replace them, he should not be permitted to play in the team's next game since he may encounter problems which may result to the player sustaining serious injuries.

2. A player's skates must be properly fitted for the player. This means that the player's skates should not be too big for his foot. If a player plays with a skate that is too big for him, he may find it hard to maneuver in it and may twist his ankle in the process. A player must have skates that will fit perfectly his feet in order to avoid any injuries while playing hockey.

3. Elbow pads should be checked for any irregularities. This means that the pad itself must not have any cracks since this may prove harmful to a player if he gets into a collision with another player, the wall or the ice. Also, elbow pad straps must be checked if these are loose or may no longer be usable so that these can be replaced as soon as possible as well.

4. Gloves must be inspected regularly to check if it has sustained any damages such as rips and tears. It would be best to replace the glove if it has such problems rather than to have it repaired. This will avoid further problems and will not hinder the player's ability during the game.

5. Helmets must be closely inspected before an upcoming game. This means that if the helmet has any defects such as cracks, missing screws or defective straps, these must either be repaired or replaced immediately as hockey is a contact sport. If a player is unable to repair their equipment or have it replaced, he may sustain serious head injuries when he falls on the ice or gets hit by another player's hockey stick.

These are just some guidelines in taking care of a team's or player's equipment so that there will be no problems during hockey games.
